RETHINK RETHINK RETHINK

Ok so it's all the backpedalling here.

What a wedding.

Even though I didn't get to watch it.  Any of it, ok so I managed to sneak 20 mins in the car whilst they were having their debrief (mock trials for my daughter in Chatham) and I got to see the outfit porn bit.

The best bit of the Oscars, the best bit of a wedding - THE DRESSES.

And following on from my last blog about all things maxi and ethereal, I'm taking it all back.

Actually it's not taking everything maxi back... as when I've hunted out my favourites, they are mostly on the maxi side.  BUT they're very much more tailored as opposed to a boho maxi.  Or they were maxi midis.  As in midi/maxis with heels.  I now appreciate I am making NO sense at all.

Here is the evidence.

Cary Mulligan in Erdem.

Abigail Spencer in Alessandra Rich (the spotty one.. WITH BELT!)

Lara Inskip

Kitty Spencer on the right in the green.  This...

And left field but I adore this.  Don't think it got nearly enough attention from what I've seen.  Although quite wintry... maybe people had planned thinking it was going to be chilly?  There were quite a few heavy, dark colours which seemed to jar against the 25degrees or so it was.

Karen Spencer

But my top top dress of the day was Sophia Wellesley in Valentino.

And seeing as it was all about the investment in these outfits, today I am going BIG.  I am talking £££ which isn't going to work for everyone so I am sorry.  BUT I will be back with some high street alternatives, during the week.

I'm also not going Valentino prices - not bonkers ronkers.  But definitely not impulse purchase prices for most of us.

Ok starting with the bargain of the day.  That's the relative term for bargain...

Multi Print Silk Crepe De Chine from DVF was £557 now £167

Maje Revant Chiffon Midi £290

V Neck Midi at Rixo £274

V Neck in lace at Ganni.  This I keep coming across and it's really growing on me.

Flynn Lace Maxi Dress £235

Floral Kimono Dress Sandro £290

Universally flattering wrap numbers.

Ganni Almeida Wrap Dress £235

Or the Fairfax Georgette Dress in Black £200 from Coggles.  This and the one above could easily be layered into the Winter with a black thin polo neck and boots.

Shorter wrap too!

Gestuz Natacha Wrap Dress £150

Shorter again and a print that will have everyone talking (in a good way.. and if not, do you care?!).  LOVE this.

PS by Paul Smith Tunic Dress £280

Another amazing colour fest at Paul Smith.

PS by Paul Smith £300

Another fabulously short one from DVF.

DVF Crew Neck Mini Dress in Farren Lipstick £351

Maje Ritiello Crepe Dress £345

And then two slightly off piste numbers.

Satin Polka Dot Dress from Self Portrait £340

DVF Olivia Print Ruched Dress £410

But for perfection in a dress.  This.

Ruffle Trimmed Floral Print Dress from Vilshenko was £1495 now £523

Silk maxi shirt porn at Ganni.  This is the same style as the leopard one I have.

Ganni Fayette Silk Shirt Dress £430

Full maxi coverage at The Outnet and I have ummed and ahhed with this one for ages.

Floral print silk maxi dress from Equipment was £503 now £196

Green at DVF £487

This one I ADORE.  In the Summer on holiday with flats, with a denim jacket and trainers.  Or like this.

Lace-up Printed Silk Midi Dress from Haute Hippie was £735 now £367

However this is my favourite.  Oh. My. Lord. I LOVE this.

DVF Tie Back Maxi Dress £431 from Coggles

So I could go on and on and on but we have Monopoly to play.  I know.  Control your envy.

I've also been slightly distracted by shoes.  Leave this with me, I have a cunning plan.   Do we also need to look at hats?  We are off on holiday next week and for a start, I definitely need a sun hat.  Coming up this week.

Speaking of dresses - just to prove you don't necessarily have to spend much - here I am in a £40 number from Zara.  Only danger is, of course, is that there is a verrry high chance of running into someone else with the same dress.

Dress - Zara (current)
Shoes - Isabel Marant from Vestiaire Collective (ss17)
Bag - Chloe from Bicester Village (ss17)
Earrings - Monica Vinader (part of paid partnership current)

Tomorrow I am off to John Lewis Westfield, with one of my closest friends to throw ourselves onto the mercy of their new Style Studio.  We are looking for JEANS.  How awful is jean shopping?  We are also subjecting everyone to our journey on Instastories.. LIVE at 5pm!  What could possibly go wrong..??  Also, my friend is a diminutive version of me (she's a LOT shorter!) and is desperate to nail the midi/maxi dress.  Will they be able to help?!

  1. I bought the Zara dress last month, I love it ❤

  2. Abigail Spencer's dress was my absolute favourite. Shame it costs £1700! I think Megan looked amazing. Think critism of the dress is unfair and unjust. The simplicity of it allowed the stunning tiara and veil, representing the commonwealth, to really be shown. She is a strong woman and we should be proud of her feminist beliefs and work for good causes. It was an amazing day showing out country how we do what no other country is able to!

    1. Horses for courses!
I liked Megan's dress, the simplicity was stunning. But I am fine with it not being everybody's cup of tea. If I were chosing a dress for myself, it wouldn't be this - it just wouldn't be right for my petite, more hourglass figure, and the white too severe for my skin - but I would take inspiration from it's modern simplicity!
Loved the Valentino one, there was even a Danish dress there too. But for me separates rule - dressy on the day but able to dress down the rest of the year!

  3. You have picked my top three dresses from the wedding (Sophia, Kitty and Carey) - they were all just glorious! Amal C's dress, which seemed to get by far the most coverage of any, was lovely (even if it was SMcC), but, yikes, her hat 😮!

  4. I loved Amal's dress (not mentioned but I had to), Carey's dress and Abigail's dress the best. They had more personality and were more interesting than many of the others

  5. Agreed - I absolutly loved the length of the dresses you've picked, and my faves are on there - Valentino one was top for sure but I loved Cary's too! I'm wearing this length to all the wedding this summer - a beautiful coral dress that used to belong to my great grandmother and I can't wait... just need to make a lining as that seems to have disappeared! finished off with some amazing embroidered Manolos from The Real Real :)
